Goats

Grazing

The dairy goats of Stokes Creek, LLC Farm enjoy lots of fresh pasture. Here we see a mother goat (Beloved) grazing along with one of her doe kids. Our herd consits of Saanen milkers, Saanen/Boer crosses, a Nubian wether, and a Pure Bred Boer Buck. (Spring 2010)

Kids Sleep in the Funniest Places

Beloved gave us triplets, and here you can see all three. One of them had a habit of jumping into a feed bucket and going to sleep. You can see Beloved keeping an eye on her. (Spring 2010)

Our First Goats

The first goats to arrive at Stokes Creek, LLC Farm were Sally Sue, Sassy Two, and Hank. Still nursing, Deborah is seen here pulling out the milk bottles for our two Nubian goats. Hank is more interested in the grain than milk. That's Sassy in Deborah's lap, while Sally looks on. (May 2007)

Hollywood and the "Queen" Mother

Here we see Hollywood (aka Begonia) and Mother (aka Rose, and the herd Queen) sticking thier heads out to see what sort of treats Deborah has brought them. Mother was our original herd queen and kept everyone in line. Hollywood was another Saanen milker and produced many beautiful kids. They were inseperable and took turns running the herd. Unfortunately, each passed away shortly after child birth in 2010. They both lived a happy and productive life here on the farm. (Winter 2009)

Goat Hill

Goats love to eat bushes and will go to extraordinary lenghts to get what they want. As you can see here, they are very agile and able to balance on their hind legs to reach up for the tastey leaves. They took about 2 months to clear out a half acre of undesireable bushes, brush, and weeds. The heard enjoyed their work on Goat Hill and all of the trash bushes are now gone. (Summer 2009)

Hank

Hank is one of our original goats. He is a Nubian Weather and is everyone's favorite. (Summer 2008)
